# URL redirects

### Create and manage redirects from old URLs to new URLs.

URL redirects are managed from **Settings → URL redirects**. Use them when a URL has changed and visitors or search engines should be sent to a new destination automatically.

Redirects are especially useful during migrations, after changing page slugs, when replacing old pages, or when consolidating different URL versions.

## Create a redirect

To create a redirect manually, enter the previous URL, the new URL, and the redirect type. Use:

* **301 Moved Permanently** for permanent URL changes.
* **302 Found** for temporary URL changes.

After creating the redirect, you can activate or deactivate it from the redirects list.

## Import and export redirects

You can import redirects using an Excel file in `.xlsx` format. The file must contain a single sheet with four columns in this exact order:

| Column | Description |
| ---- |
| `Old URL` | The URL that should redirect. |
| `New URL` | The destination URL. |
| `HTTP Code` | The redirect type. Only `301` and `302` are allowed. |
| `Active` | Use `1` to import the redirect as active, or `0` to import it as inactive. |

You can also export the current redirects to review, edit, or keep a backup outside the CMS.

## Manage existing redirects

From the redirects list, you can activate, deactivate, edit, or remove existing redirects. Review redirects carefully after large content changes or migrations to avoid sending visitors to outdated, duplicated, or incorrect URLs.

|| Removing a page from the sitemap does not redirect it automatically. If an old URL should send visitors to a new page, create a redirect.
