Global data and Block data
Understand the difference between site-level data and block-specific data when editing designs.
When editing a design, the frontend editor gives you access to two different data contexts: Global data and Block data.
Both can be used in the HTML of a design, but they serve different purposes. Global data belongs to the site. Block data belongs to the specific block being edited.
Global data
Global data contains site-level variables that are available from any block design.
It includes information that is shared across the website, such as navigation, available languages, business information, booking data, static texts, integrations and module-related data.
For example, global data can include:
- Main, legal, landing, and home navigation structures.
- The current language and the languages available on the site.
- Business information, such as the site name, address, phone number, city, country, or domain.
- Static texts used by designs, forms, booking widgets, cookies, accessibility labels, and common interface elements.
- Booking configuration and default booking values.
- Addons and module data exposed at site level.
The exact structure of global data depends on the site configuration, enabled languages, active modules, booking engine, integrations, and available content.
Use global data when a design needs to display information that does not belong only to that block.
For example:
{{global.information.business-name}}
{{global.information.phone}}
When rendering navigation items:
{{#global.menus.main}}
<a href="{{url}}">{{name}}</a>
{{/global.menus.main}}
Or to display a static text:
{{global.static-texts.common.menu}}Block data
Block data contains the fields available for the specific block being edited.
Each block type has its own field structure. Block data is the data entered in the CMS panel for that block: titles, texts, images, links, videos, list items, module references, or any other fields supported by that block type.
Use block data when the design needs to display the content managed from the block panel.
For example:
Heading:
{{#text.value.title}}
<{{text.value.tag}}>{{text.value.title}}</{{text.value.tag}}>
{{/text.value.title}}
Rich text:
{{#text2.value}}
<div>
{{{text2.value}}}
</div>
{{/text2.value}}
Image:
{{#image.value.original}}
<img src="{{image.value.src.xl}}" alt="{{image.value.alt}}">
{{/image.value.original}}
The fields available in Block data depend on the block type. For the full list of fields by block type, use the Block reference guide.
